Robin Anne Ettles pursues the 14th year of her musical career as a songwriter, composer and record producer. Her merits and distinctions are provincial, national and international in scope. The compass of her touring experience as a sideperson with various bands spans from New Orleans to the North Pole and from Nanaimo to Newfoundland.
All of Robin's experience inadvertently contributed to the making of ‘social latin line dancing', her first full-length techno-lounge record under the moniker of rae. The record consists mostly of instrumental and highly imaginative works, released in November 08. It is digitally distributed world-wide in CD and mp3 format, and even as ringtones in Finland.
Robin's songwriting has enjoyed some recognition. Her song ‘Amazing' received Honourable Mention at the 2008 Billboard International Songwriting Contest and advanced to the second round of the 2006 International Songwriting Competition (ahead of more than 14,000 songs). With various other songs, Robin captured the Grand Prize of the New Brunswick Songwriting Competition in 2001 (where she won in two different categories) and the 1999 ECMA for Alternative Artist with SOL. She was the band's principal songwriter. Robin currently organizes and hosts an open mic for songwriters in Moncton, endorsed by the Songwriters Association of Canada, on a monthly basis.
The past two years have created major momentum for Robin's work. Projects involving her compositions garnered national attention on both cinematic and songwriting fronts. ‘La Voisine', a short film directed by Pamela Gallant and scored by Robin played in festivals across the country. It won Best Atlantic Short at the Atlantic Film Festival, followed by Best Short at the Silverwave Film Festival. While the film made festival headlines in the fall of 2007, she was traveling across the province of New Brunswick on a composition project funded by the Canada Council for the Arts. In both her songwriting and her artistic vision, Robin gives the listener an experience of unique contemplation delivered with melodic phrasing and depth in sonic texture. Her drive for creation is rivalled only by her love of the same.
